Missing Brewton portrait of Serkin
Portrait of Rudolf Serkin by Jim Brewton: We've located the charcoal study for this work, but the painting has disappeared. This image is from the background of a Brewton family photo, taken in 1963. The painting was probably given to Mr. Serkin in Philadelphia.

This image of a painting was found among Jim Brewton's portfolio slides, but we're not certain the work is by Brewton. If it is, it was possibly painted while Jim was in Denmark, either 1962-63 or 1965.

"Last Game" is an antiwar painting about Hiroshima. Shown at the memorial exhibition at PAFA's Peale Galleries in 1968, the painting was last seen in Bismarck, N. Dakota.

James E. Brewton. Unknown title. The missing painting image is from a slide date-stamped "Sep '64." In Jim's handwriting on the slide, the date and dimensions are given as 1964, 40" x 30". We can see two paintings we've found (see the Paintings page) on the floor, allowing us to date them, as well, as ca. 1964.
No Birds in the Sky, missing painting by Brewton
"No Birds in the Sky," an antiwar mixed-media piece, was shown at Peale Galleries in 1968. The painting was last seen in Bismarck, N. Dakota.
